The Purpose of Psalms

As you may have noticed, some of my blogs are not really articles, but are poems, brief thoughts, or are phrases. These shorter entries are my "Psalms," written on days when I really have very little to say, but a lot to mean.

There are some days in our lives where we are worn down, exhausted from the stimulations and chaos of life's essence, not that some of the stimulations are not very good, in fact, many times they are extremely good - but you can become overwhelmed with everything...these are the times when a few words are all you have to express the voice of your heart, a voice that has a lot to say.

This is EXACTLY what David was doing when he was writing his Psalms (in the REAL book of Psalms). You look at the situations, from which the songs were written, and find that they were varied from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in David's life - the times in his life when he was literally overwhelmed with emotion (high and low) as he handled whatever it was he was facing. All he could do was utter phrases of praise or lament, sometimes in verse, other times in prose - but all of which were heavy with "Selah" meaning (compilations of thoughts intended to be "soaked on" for full appreciation).

This is the intent, purpose, and reason for my "psalms." They are being written during periods in my life, in which I desire to say something, overflowing with pensive emotions and contemplative thoughts, but have very little to say in articulation. My hope is that you also "soak on" the phrases I write - apply them to whatever it is that life has thrown at you, both wonderful and horrific, and be encouraged by what the Spirit may speak to your heart from these brief "Selahs" I've posted.
